Travel Tips for Planning a Fun Family Vacation

We just welcomed the spring season and with the warmer weather on the horizon, it’s time for many families to take a vacation to get a break from the brutal winter weather. There are so many things to consider when planning for a family vacation to ensure that everyone has a good time. Here are a few tips to make sure your family has the best spring vacation.

Have a plan

Travel is always easier when you have a general travel plan. Your itinerary does not need to be scheduled down to the minute but having a general idea of places you would like to visit during your spring break vacation, the hours of operation of those places, driving directions and other important details can make all the difference in a family adventure. Especially when traveling with young children, the more familiar you are with where you plan to be, when you will be there and how you will arrive to that destination will make the trip more enjoyable for everyone.

Theme Parks

If your Spring Break vacation involves visiting a theme park with your family consider purchasing your tickets ahead of time. Planning ahead with purchasing tickets can sometimes allow you to take advantage of special promotions the parks are having for visitors during that time. Also, be sure to ask about any VIP or FastPass options that are sometimes available at theme parks. Especially when visiting with young children, be sure to familiarize yourself with the park ahead of time by visiting the park website and looking over their online map. Make sure to locate bathrooms with changing stations, stroller parking, first aid stations and refreshments on the park map before visiting.

Free City Fun

If you are visiting a city for your spring break vacation or enjoying a staycation in your hometown there are so many free activities to take advantage of. Many cities offer special activities during spring break so be sure to do your research ahead of time and fill up your schedule. Most information can be found on city tourism websites and city based family websites that post upcoming events. Some museums, zoos, theaters and libraries are constantly offering free activities for families so this is something to keep in mind throughout the year (especially when visiting a super active city like New York City). And of course on a beautiful spring day, you can always enjoy city parks for free as well.

At the Beach

Many families like to visit warmer climate destinations during the spring break holiday. If you plan to visit the beach with your young children, be prepared with the necessary gear. Age appropriate sunscreen, sunhats, lightweight clothing as well as proper footwear are all essential. Be sure to stay hydrated and stay in the shade as much as possible. Many companies make wonderful beach toys for younger children so be sure to take some along or send to your destination ahead of time if you plan to play in the sand or build your baby’s first sand castle.

Have Fun

No matter the destination, the most important thing about spring break vacation is to enjoy being together. Whether your plan is to stay home or travel afar, make sure you remember to have a great time. Proper vacation planning is the key component to having a stress free trip and so the more you can accomplish before leaving your house the better. Wishing you all a happy, healthy and safe spring break vacation!
