Geraldine Grace Johns began ballet at the age of 4 at the Deborah Hale School of Dance in Porirua, New Zealand. She continued her practice with Katie Haines De Vere Academy of Dance before being accepted as the youngest entrant at the age of 16 years into the New Zealand School of Dance where she studied full time for two years in Wellington. At the age of 18 Geraldine auditioned and won the lead role of Jammes in the Ken Hill's 'Original Phantom of the Opera' touring throughout New Zealand, Australia, Japan and Korea.
Moving to London in 1998 and with dreams of becoming a ballet teacher she studied with the Royal Academy of Dance at their headquarters in Battersea Park, London and taught in Clapham, Putney and Surrey. After accepting an offer to return to Yokohama, Japan she taught a wide range of children from the ages of 2.5 years through to adults.
In 2000 Geraldine returned to Wellington, New Zealand and under the supervision of Paula Hunt, Chair of the Panel of Examiners, she achieved Distinction for her Teachers Certificate with the Royal Academy of Dance. In an act of ultimate dream fulfillment, she purchased a small ballet school in Remuera, Auckland and proudly expanded it to over 200 students ranging from 3.5 years to 16 years. She offered classes in Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Pointe, Choreography, Open Classes, Body Conditioning, Pilates, Private Lessons, Competitions and Summer Intensives and with her students achieving a high level of excellence in Examinations with the Royal Academy of Dance. Geraldine is a founder of the Alana Haines Australasian Awards, in memory of her friend, with eleven awards representing eleven years of Alana's life.
In 2007 Geraldine wanted to diversify herself so with two suitcases and her small dog called Gangster she moved to New York City after being accepted full time into the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre. Upon graduation in 2009 she had a teaching position part-time at the Neighborhood Playhouse and joined the highly acclaimed Off-Broadway theatre company, Godlight. Geraldine also taught ballet at the Lower East Side Dance Academy. Geraldine's most recent performance was with the Deborah Zall Project alongside past and present members of the Martha Graham Dance Company.
