BCM - How did your life change when you became a mom?
Jennifer - I think I was totally unprepared for how much you love them. I mean, you think you will know how it will feel to be a mother, but when you see your children grow and become little human beings it is unlike any love I've ever felt. It has made the rest of my priorites seem relative.
BCM- What has been your most memorable moment (s) as a mom?
Jennifer - I think seeing the sonogram the very first time when there were 2 sacks in there!! the Doctor said, it looks like twins and I nearly fell off the table!! Either that or the first time my daughter said before bed in her crib "My name is Blaise Pate Egeth and I'm going to be president"..that one was pretty special also.
BCM- What has been the biggest challenge for you in motherhood?
Jennifer - Time management. Owning and running 2 companies (thanks goodness I have a business partner for one of them), and having 3 kids basically 3 and under, I am consantly trying to juggle where to be and whats the most important thing to do at that moment.
BCM - What inspired you to start your own business(es)?
Jennifer - I also believed if I need it and you need and they need it, there's a business in it. With both companies Save The Date, my event planning company, I just felt that I could do it better than anyone else around, and I started my company with a very different business model thatn anyone else. With Portamee, well, that was a passion I felt for the product my partner had designed. She handed it to me as a test, and I said, this is revolutionary..I have to help get this out to market..so we became partners!
BCM - What was your inspiration for creating the Portamee?
Jennifer - There was nothing like our product on the marketplace. We believed that style and functionality were both important when considering any purchase. Robin had needed this product after her C section to carry her baby, and there was nothing on the marketplace that worked for her..I had tried on every sling, front carrier with my daughter, and they were either too uncomfortable, or ugly and none had any pockets for phone, blackberry, diapers etc.and carrying around a diaper bag and my baby seemed crazy!..Then I tried the prototype of Robin's design..we joined forces and the portamee baby carrier was born!
BCM - How do you run 2 businesses while being a great mother and wife? Any advice for moms?
Jennifer - Delegate~~!! I outsource everything but what I am very good at, and what I want to do. both in my business and in my home. I can't possibly do everything, so I get great help and pick the parts I wouldnt want anyone else to do, and try to make peace with that. I also try to remember to breath...and on my worst days where I feel like I'm failing everyone and everything, I say" I'm just one human being, and I'm doing the best I can"..that seems to calm me down.
BCM - What types of activities do you like to do w/ your kids? What do you do for fun?
Jennifer - I love to be outdoors, so we play. we take nature walks, go exploring, collect shells, or just play on the swings. I taught my daughter how to swing this summer, she was very proud to do it all by herslelf!!
BCM- What are your favorite Mom Essentials and why?
Jennifer - My portamees, of course!! now that I have twins, my husband and I each carry one baby and we can walk with our daughter all togehter! Besides that, I love my jogging stroller, as I always take one baby with me when I go running, my urban mountain double stroller for tribeca...and I LOVE the bloom baby plexiglass bouncy seats, and the fresco highchairs ( I have 2 for the twins, they are totally mod!
BCM- If you could give another mom or expectant mom one piece of advice, what would it be?
Jennifer - You dont have to do anything but breathe....everyone says..you have to---- or you must----. I always replied '"all I have to do is breathe"
BCM - Do you have a motto you would like to share with other moms?
Jennifer - Welcome to the best club on earth
BCM - Which BCM event was your favorite?
Jennifer - The new mother lunches..as its the most confusing, overwhelming time, and to be able to sit with other moms, feeling the EXACT same way..its just a life saver..and to be given nuggets of information, insites and products by other moms, is the best advise you can get:) |
