BCM - How did your life change when you became a mom?
Jessica: Everything changed! Your time is not your own like it used to be, but your time is MORE important now that someone needs you.
BCM- What has been your most memorable moment (s) as a mom?
Jessica: Every night when my husband gets home from work I love to see my son run up to him he gets so excited (they both do it's really sweet). I don't know if there's a single favorite moment, but I do write in a journal all the milestones and once a month a little update on how he and I are doing. It's all a blur sometimes so this is a great way to always remember the little things too .
BCM- What has been the biggest challenge for you in motherhood?
Jessica: Keeping cool and trying to be patient even when Zachary is having a meltdown. When this happens as it does in the middle of the supermarket or when I'm on an important call I try every distraction and snack possible to try and keep him happy. Every mother has her bag of tricks, so I try to keep him happy using my finely tuned negotiation tactics, and of course Earth's Best crackers.
BCM - What inspired your work in television?
Jessica: Since graduating college I've worked in TV reporting on fashion and beauty for outlets like E! Entertainment and CITYbuzz. I've also been calling on my passion for sharing tips on motherhood by reporting on consumer and product trends for Big City Moms.
BCM - How do you manage your career while being a
mother and a wife? Any advice for moms?
Jessica: I really don't know how moms can work from home and actually get stuff done?! When I'm home trying to get work done and prep for my shoots my son is basically attacking my computer. I do really love having my own time when I work- it's a field I'm very passionate about, but I am dedicated to being a mom full-time. I kind of have the best of both worlds.
BCM - What types of activities do you like to do w/ your son?
Jessica: Zachary loves the swings at John Jay Park and would never get out if he had his way, but in the city there's always a line so he never really gets his wish. He loves to chase the birds, and play with the dogs. He has no fear when it comes to the dogs he really loves them so much it's really cute.
BCM- What are your favorite Mom Essentials and why?
Jessica: Anything that keeps items like snack cups, toys and bottles from falling to the ground, because we all know everything goes overboard! My must essential is the velcro or snap strings that keeps them from hitting the ground (I think I have 4 diff types!). My son gets the satisfaction of tossing, but I get the piece of mind that the dirty city streets are safely avoided! I also love my Stokke stroller, and we get stopped on the street and/or stared down everyday. For Zach it's awesome he gets to hang out up high and I think it's been really great for both of us.
BCM- If you could give another mom or expectant mom one piece of advice, what would it be?
Jessica:
It's definitely a lot harder and challenging than you can imagine being a parent. But, the love and the laughs are unlike any other experience you have ever had in your life. My son amazes me everyday. My advice is buy a video camera. Make sure you actually use it! I cannot wait to show his future wife all the videos I made of him.
BCM- Which BCM event was your favorite?
Jessica: I loved the 2008 Mother's Day event at Tavern on the Green with Supernanny Jo Frost. I got to bring my mom with me, and it was so wonderful. My favorite memory was getting an atuographed book and my son was 6 months at the time laid on the table where she was signing and she was rubbing his belly. It was really funny he was loving it, and she was so lovely and sincere.
